FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hello,

I don't seem to get some mods working and I can't get everything with the giveme command. I'm new, new with minetest and new with my OS (LUbuntu 11.10). My knowledge about Linux and programming is low.

I have Minetest-c55 0.4.dev-20120408 on my computer. First I got it with the Synaptic Package Manager. Then, after I got stuck on a server, with a lot of help, I compiled another one (same release).

The Mods
I know I have to extract them in the mods-folder (It doesn't seem to matter wich one). I think I understand that the files/folders you need are the

With mods, you'll need to use the entire name of the item.

For example if you're using BobBlocks and you want 10 red block2, you'll want to use:

/giveme bobblocks:redblock 10

When in doubt, I open the .lua files in the mod and look at the node names.

It looks like part of my text was cut off after (... you need are the... )? But at least I know now that giveme is not a problem and that the mods are loaded. By the way, the Bobblocks mod is great! :-D

This leaves me with a sharper defined problem: The growing/generated stuff of the nature mod and the creation of Nyanland heaven don't work, while the animal mod does work/generate animals. I have no clue why... The package format, the programming in LUA, or whatever). Is there someone who sees the problem and can help me?

Don't be reliant on giveme, unless you are a pixel artist - like me.

No, I don't want to rely on giveme :-D

That's why I want to have the mods working as they are supposed to do.



....... although I have a soft spot for the Nyanland Clonestone...

alot of mods wont work as theyre supposed to lol thats pretty much how i got into modding. but yeah, dont feel bad about givemes: some of my skyscrappers i built in under twenty minutes lol
