The server is probably just slow, it doesn't send you terrain while it should. Also, maybe you've pressed F4 by mistake, which stops occlusion/frustum culling updates.

Where were you then when it didn't work?

In my experience, servers render slower when they are further away. Also the amount of players and the quality of the server seem to influence the rendering.

I'm in Macedonia (Europe).

I guess your screenshot is from Menche's server, which is at California. Probably the Steinheim server, redcrab's , Glomie's serveur and the both .ru servers (I only know the test-server) work (good) for you now. Ecube's server could now also be slow rendering for you.

I was a bit sloppy earlier --> Besides the distance I think quality of the server is also important. That includes the handling of the player amounts and the amount and type of mods (and probably the other non-minetest stuff running on it). The mt1.gameboom server renders quick for me, although it's in the USA.

I'm not sure anymore about the the influence of the internet quality, nor about the computer or graphical card quality on the rendering.

- Above counts for the rendering on internet servers not singleplayer and is based on my own playing experience -
