FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

The basic sounds in minetest have just stopped working for me walking, digging, placing. (And they have been working for months) But my mod sounds still work. I rebooted, didn't help. So I figured I'd just download different versions of minetest and unzip them from scratch. Same problem, no sound at all until I add mods with sound. So I re-download and re-install openal. Still no sounds until I add mods and then still no basic sounds. I checked and all the .ogg files are in the minetest game folder. I am at a loss on this one.

Well that's strange; maybe Vista is telling you to get Ubuntu or a Linux Distro.

Hah, headphones were going bad. So even with the sound set at 100%, the basic sounds were just too quiet compared to the other sounds so I couldn't hear them even though they were there.
