The fast switching cube of corruption

by trukoil » Mon Oct 22, 2012 12:45

Well, beyond the title, have you noticed the fast texture switching cube in the lower left corner when loading a game with many mods installed? Looks good for an effect, but not for the side effect: in-game textures are corrupted. Is this a feature to use less memory for using Minetest on netbooks? Every time i got the cube i must restart the game / logoff the server i was playing, and sometimes this problem isn't present, with all textures loaded. I've disabled the texture atlas (the cache, i think) from the config file but nothing is changed, only the message "Atlas is full" is gone.

I get this when I open many worlds without closing minetest. If you have more blocks then MT has to load more textures. Only use the mods you realy want. Also try my minimal game, it has only a few blocks and loads realy fast.

I can do this on single player, but on multiplayer? I know that more mods equal to more load time, but why the texture corruption? There's a memory limit to make Minetest usable on low end devices? If yes, a checkbox named "NetBook mode" that use this limit when checked and not when not checked would be usefull.
