Hey, could someone give me a step-by-step teaching me how to setup a LAN network that me and my brother can play on? I am using windows7. And we are using the same router.

both of you need to use wired connections... if you are both wired, than that should work... then just get the ip and start a new lan game from advanced and then the other one will use the ip to log in... easy as that...

The one end of the wire is in your PC the other end is in your brother's PC.

Start a game from the "advanced" tab. The "address" field should be blank, so minetest starts it's own server rather than connect to one. Leave this game open because this is your server. Then, run cmd and type "ipconfig". The number after "IPv4" is your IP address. Simply connect any other computer to that address.

What about port forwarding? And the subnet mask, or the default gateway?

It doesnt work for me :(, okay, I went to advanced section, selected a world I wanted. left the address blank. port 30000, started the game, went to cmd program, the number under the IPv4 I assume you meant the default gateway, that number was 192.168.0.1 and we tried the subnet mask also which was 255.255.255.0 and my brother couldnt connect. why?

Disconnect from internet and dissable the firewall if you are on windows. Make sure to enable it when connection again.

Near the top of the output of ipconfig, I have this line:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
- Code: Select all
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.10
(that address is my local one, it won't work for you) It is 2 lines above my "default gateway" line. Do you have that line?
