I'm on an HP Mini 1010NR, and I kinda sorta might have MAYBE...

Decreased the viewing distance to five. My + works just fine, but the game doesn't seem to like it when I press it.
(It gives no response)

Any ideas? I don't like only seeing an extremely small fraction of the game. I'm on the latest build of it.

Each time you change your ingame viewing range, it's also changed in your minetest.conf. For example in my minetest.conf is now a line:

viewing_range_nodes_min = 145

So you could try to change it in your minetest.conf to a higher value before doubleclicking on bin/restarting.

Ingame you can use r to toggle to the standard max viewing range

Maybe it's just slow. My - sometimes doesn't react until I did something else like viewing my inventory.

Maybe you need to push also the <shift> key in combination with your +/= key, or is your key-board set-up a bit different (try keys like the ; , / ] etc. )

Ingame, R toggles maximum viewing range for your current distance setting. But I'm about to try editing the file.
