Shaders should be disabled by default.

How do you Disable shaders?

Before you start the game go to options where you would find opaque water and other options

You download the game because you have an old computer and minecraft isn't running on it. Then when starting minetest everything is red and lags extremely.
Then it looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_D8cLH6wSo

Shaders are an extra that you can enable when you have good hardware, nothing basic.

By default Minetest uses opengl which runs fine with shaders. If you're smart enough to change video_driver to directx in minetest.conf I suppose you can also disable shaders from GUI.

In this video you even see some shader errors.

I run at 40 FPS with the red shader

I use opengl, but with sharers it is half the FPS and nearly unplayable. People should not first need to change there settings for a game to work.

And again, when downloading you don't know about that: http://minetest.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=4267

I don't like shaders on by default either.
It's not only an FPS problem, it's just that new users are confused.
I give a +1 for shaders DISABLED by default.
