4.5 not recognizing mods

by 10twenty4 » Tue Mar 12, 2013 21:02

I'm having issues getting mods on version 0.4.5 to work (specifically technic, but I've noticed it with other mods I've tried as well). I'm positive I've placed the mods in the correct folder (/mods/minetest), but they don't appear ingame, and I'm not seeing any type of error in debug.txt.

The strange thing, the mods do function in 0.4.4 (except for Technic, but even that appears in-game for a bit before crashing), so has something changed in the way mods are installed that I'm missing?

First: It is 0.4.5 and 0.4.4 not 4.5
Second: Are you sure you renamed the mod folders correctly? (as in the [] in the forum topic for them)

Are you running minetest_game? If not, mods/minetest won't load its contents. For example, on my copy, I never renamed the minetest_game-0.4.5 directory to minetest_game, so to install plugins, I would need to put them in mods/minetes_game-0.4.5. On my other world, I use 0gb.us_game, so I have to put plugins in mods/0gb.us.

Yep, that was it! I hadn't renamed that folder correctly. Thank you, and I apologize for my stupidity.

No worries. It's not stupidity so much as incomplete documentation. They never tell you why we put plugins in mods/minetest. I only found out by guessing and checking.

I should really add that to the documentation myself, as the convention is a bit odd (remove the trailing "_game" from the game name if it exists). I'll submit a pull request when I get to it, but I have a lot of homework to catch up on.
