Go to the Singleplayer tab, click "Create world", give it a name and select "minetest_game", click "OK", make sure the world is selected then click "Play".
If this doesn't work, this means you do not have write permissions in your Minetest directory. Instead of putting Minetest in Program Files, put it somewhere in C:\Games (create the directory if needed).

Try putting your Minetest folder into your My Documents folder. Don't put it in your Programs folder.

You could copy some text, then paste it in the world creation window. ;)

Press Windows Key+E to open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer). Locate Minetest folder in the "Program Files" and drag that Minetest folder to the C: drive. So Minetest folder should now be located at C:\minetest-0.4.6\ directly (no "Program Files"). Or as someone else suggested try dragging the minetest folder to "My Documents".
Have you tried download the latest version of Minetest and extracting that to a new folder?

Hi all i have the same problem (ERROR[main]: Some exception: "Illegal instruction") when trying to play a word. I did all the proposed solutions like moving it in other places like C or documents even unraring them at those places but nothing works. Is there any solution to this problem or is it still a mystery.
I really wanna give this game a try considering i played manic digger a similar game to this where i made huge builds (until the community sadly died out) so i was looking forward to try this game which from screenshoots and youtube looks amazing.
Info:
Game version: Minetest 0.4.7
Operating system: MS Windows XP Professional SP2
Computer info: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 1,25 GB Ram Ati Radeon 9550/X1050 Series (i know its a stone age computer :)
Debug file (after multiple tries producing the same error, tried with multiple worlds and both game modes still same error while being in diffrent directorys.)

Minetest requires SSE, which your CPU doesn't support.
