FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

This on my mate's pc and he screenshared on skype and this happens:
the black screen pops up (the cmd one, don't know what it's called).
Then an error after a few secs comes up saying that Minetest has crashed - "Signature p minetest.exe - Offset 00019af2"
".minetest.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
any help please?

Or he could try a build from the minetest.net - downloads
