Minetest dose not save

PostPosted: Wed Jun 19, 2013 20:06

It seems that sometimes when i play minetest and then exit the game sometimes the game dose not save correctly. things like my position and things in my inventory seem to save fine, except blocks which i have placed. this is very annoying because anything i build will be lost, or if i make a tunnel i will become trapped underground.

if anyone can help i would be very happy.

Minetest saves the map every 5.3 seconds. If you shut down the game properly, then everything should be saved fine.

A log would be probably helpfull (see http://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?id=5073).

You should set "debug_log_level = 4" in minetest.conf before creating the log, this gives more useful information.

the debug.txt with "debug_log_level = 4"

I've had the same problem in one of my worlds as well. Fortionately, all of my actions where logged in the debug.txt, so I could feed that to worldedit and get the structures I had built back. I have no idea what might have been the cause of the bug. It happened only in that one world.

Also what soko said about the world is what i am having. But when i make a new world at first the world seems to save. but after i have exit the map a lot of times it stops saving.
This bug make the game unplayable - unless i go back to 0.4.6

Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all

17:50:01: INFO[main]: Initializing new map.
17:50:01: INFO[main]: WARNING: Not saving map, saving disabled.

What are the contents of C:\Users\****\AppData\Roaming\Minetest\minetest-0.4.7\worlds\world for testing\map_meta.txt?

This sounds like a very serious bug. I wonder what is causing it and what can be done about it?

Might be because it is being saved to app data, and then the folder is deleted?

i have lots of minetest devs in the add data folder and they seem to work fine
However in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" the game needs permissions to add or remove files. Only admin accounts edit files in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" folder.

Like i said when i make a new world the save works. but after a while the game dose not save blocks being put down.

map_meta.txt contains the seed of the map and the mapgen settings. It would be best if you find a backup of your world, otherwise you have write a random seed into it and the world will be screwed up.

It might be corrupted because of a unusual shut down of Minetest (e.g. force killing the program), a shitty OS, or a broken HDD.
