You need to post more useful information, otherwise we won't be able to help you

What video card do you have? How much RAM do you have? What is your CPU? These are key points in determining what the problem is.

*grin*

Open minetest.conf with wordpad. Add this line at the bottom:
video_driver = direct3d9

Oh, and you might want to turn shaders off in the settings menu. :-)

Come to think of it, why are you using 0.4.2? Have you tried 0.4.7, which has many improvements?

where did you download Minetest from?

*raises eyebrow*

You can't, say download this one? Give it a shot again. It's been a long time since I used 0.4.2 (upgraded to 0.4.3, use that for legacy mods) - and the future is always in the latest version.

Is DropBox blocked on your computer?
If not, try this link.

Have you extracted your Minetest? If not, read this:

From zip:
Extract the zip package somewhere (be sure that you have write access - don't extract it in “Program Files”). Run the executable found in the bin/ folder. Go into minetest directory, bin, double click the minetest file, and click run.

From installer:
Follow the instructions given when you run the installer executable.
To run Minetest, click the icon in the start menu, or the desktop. Alternatively go to C:/Minetest/bin and run the executable.
Note that the installer installs the same version as in the .zip (be sure that you have write access - don't install it to “Program Files”). Don't know about installers.
