It can be seen from anywhere, but not when a node is in the way. It got thicker as the sun rose through it, then got thinner again.

Afaik the only missing texture is the 'Unknown Node' texture.

I have now gone back to the ready-built minetest dev versions, after finding that thesmoke puff texture was also not present. The bug has now disappeared with ready built versions, so that was probably the problem.
