FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Hi i've already downloaded the 0.4.8 version of minetest, and when i started it, the servers window was completely empty( it's normal? i don't know) then i tryed to join in a few servers like landrush, hungergames and other but i can't log in neither of them. There is a message that says 'connecting to the server' i wait half an hour but nothing happened.
I play on a quite old computer with windows xp.
I hope you can help me and i'm sorry for my bad english :( excuse me

Sometimes a server can be busy and have too many people connected, and other times the server appears on the list but isn't available so connection errors like this occur...
