map generation problem (huge walls)

by durtective6 » Thu Dec 05, 2013 16:34

just wanted to quickly ask, whilst i was testing my mod again i had to generate a new world to test the ores. However i found these walls which went on for thousands of blocks and was wondering if anyone else gets these.

That looks like map info/database corrupted (minetest is using a different seed for each block or regenerating blocks with a new seed).
This could be caused if the you have run out of disk space.

v6? That's pretty normal.

7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build

Why havent you reported that earlier?
What db backend are you using?
Have you noticed other file corruption on your computer?
Why the fuck do you use a trilinear filter on 16px textures!?

A. Because I didn't think that it was such a major issue.
B. Dafuq's a 'db backend'?
C. I recently formatted my PC. But MT was untouched. I don't think it has anything to do with Hard Drive issues.
D. Because PRESSING ALL THE CHECKBOXES IN SETTINGS IS AWESOME ! XD

Anyway, I haven't found anything like that in 0.4.8 I made two worlds, and both are clean. The images are from one single world that was created just to show the bug. The build number is in the images.

I have to agree with hoodice and Hybrid Dog, everytime I start a world with v6 I get walls areound where you spawn but I think they dont bother anying just add a challange to scale the thing to get to the other side. My server (Minelrealms) has walls around spawn that we use to our advantage to make a flat spawn. So I say no biggy, and not to get so mad at him for not reporting it we all just thought it was normal. :D

I get this when enabling the caves mapgen flag, i put it down to when the caves are generated it seems to lift that area of terrain. When i don't use caves flag the map is smoother but yeah no caves at all just a solid stone.
Just thought it was normal.

Edit: So this is not normal?

Sometimes it can be worse, with huge cliffs. Was the same throughout 0.4.7 dev builds on my XP OS and still does it in 0.4.8 stable or dev on my Win 7 OS.

That seems to be normal.

With me and some others, the walls get in between stuff; take a look at my second screenshot a few posts back, the cliff actually cuts a part of a tree.

With yours, the cliffs are rounded, and there is water around, so I guess that is legit.

Ok thanks PilzAdam and Hoodedice good to know it's normal, maybe i should look into mapgen side of things to get an understanding.

I remember doing this. Whenever you change the seed those things will generate. Now if you didnt change the universal seed then you are fine.

Dopium, those raised areas of terrain are not caused by the caves flag. Mapgen v6 is a blend of 2 different shapes, the blend is designed to change very sharply, causing those pillars, cliffs and plateaus :)

Brilliant, makes sense now as i noticed when playing around with the caves flag and some settings the flag was not effecting the generation like i thought was. Thanks i am still very novice with the mapgen side of things.
