Quite a few mods offer a GUI interface which will not allow you to click buttons if the chat text appears over the top of it... pressing F2 to close chat does work but can be annoying turning it on/off to do just this, is their a better way to fix for this problem ?

Yes, I had that annoying bug sometimes too.
I tried to click buttons on the top but the chat box didn't allow me to.

Same here. Without F2, some menus just can't be operated.

For me, the [TAB] key mostly helped to choose the button, and hitting it with [SPACE]
