by OryHara » Sat Jun 07, 2014 05:19

Wavin everyone, it's been awhile since i played minetest, but i noticed and tried mapgen V7, i don't know if this is a bug or if it was intended, but so far in v7, everything seems to be all stone.

Not at all. V7 is still in development, and hasn't been finished yet. However, it has an API for creating custom biomes, and there are already a few mods who take advantage of that fact to create some pretty neat stuff. For example, take a look at paramat's "biomes for mapgenv7" mod in Mod Releases, or check out the API implementation used in Jordach's Big Freaking Dig game.

Why are water chasms only found in rivers and never in oceans? Why are oceans shallow and never really deep?

In reply to the first question, I have in fact found water chasms in oceans, so I guess you've just been fairly unlucky...

With the second question, I've found some deep oceans before.

This one here is upward of 15 nodes deep in some places:

Snow Mod supports Mapgen V7!

by Splizard » Mon Jun 09, 2014 04:12

This was generated in mapgenv7 using Snow Mod.

But without any other mapgenv7 mods installed you will only get a fully snow biome :/
Games: The Hungry Games.
Mods: Lifters (Simple Lifts), Snow Biomes and Gates.
Also checkout my texture pack Gridtoon!
View all of them plus more at http://minetest.splizard.com! (may not always be online).

Rivers are sometimes several hundreds of nodes deep.

Why are rivers deeper? That does not make sense.
