segfault when removing a cart entity I am riding

So, I finally took the plunge and did a fresh install of xubuntu 14.04 over my old 12.04 system.
On my old 12.04 system many mods (mesecons, moretrees, etc) would cause minetest to lock up while loading. After some research no one else was able to reproduce the problem and we decided it was due to all of my broken packages and other problems in the old 12.04 install.

So now I've got a shiny new install and I tried minetest again. No more errors while loading on most mods!
BUT, I've now got some new problems.

The one bugging me the most is connected to entities. I can place a cart, right click to mount the cart, punch it and ride all just fine. I can sneak sneak-leftclick to remove a cart I am not in. But when I sneak-leftclick to delete the cart while I'm IN it, minetest locks up and crashes. ONLY when I'm riding the cart at the time, mind you.

My debug output shows that the code completed the carts lua, (got to the final return) it crashed sometime after that. My syslog shows:

Now, I'm running a different version of minetest now, the 14.04 compile instead of 12.04, is it related to that or is it a problem in my fresh new install?

To expand upon the problem. I tried running a skylands game. worked fine for a little bit, then shortly after I tried to ride the helicopter, it started crashing with segfaults in the syslog. Crashes within 30 seconds of my loading it up now.
