Hi,

I wanted to install minetest, version 0.4.9 is the version marked stable in Gentoo's portage reposeitory. After installing it I run and get

after which I see a window flash up but not staing for more than an instance.

After waiting a long time, I press Ctrl+C and it closes with

I wanted to find out what went wrong, so I read "debug.txt" in ~/.minetest/ which only contains:

I read the manual a bit and discover the --verbose and --trace flags, which only gives [INFO] messages (no warnings, no errors). This is the output:

Since no error or warn message is presented it seems as it should work, but it does not: window flashes up and does not stay. But I do not know how debug this problem further.

What can I do to get it working?

Which window manager or desktop environment are you using? Maybe the MT window just gets hidden for some reason?

Update/partial solution:

After mentioning my problem on the IRC channel I got some ideas to try out. Buy setting

in ~/.minetest/minetest.conf, which is default set to "false" the main menu starts finally. I do not know what the problem was specifically, the people on IRC said it might be a irrlicht+wmii problem (wmii is my window manager). Somehow maybe irrlich do not approve of the window handeling of wmii. Another person on IRC said that it was working fine with gentoo+minetest+KDE (are however using ~amd64 keyword on minetest, I use all stable), so wmii+something seems to be the problem.
