Character conversion failed!

I wanted to play minetest before, but the text wouldn't show. I had to check on screenshots to see which button does what. It is very annoying. I tried different versions of minetest made by different people, but the text still doesn't show. So I quitted minetest.
Now I want to play minetest again, but it has the same problem, except that now it says: "Character conversion failed!".
Is there any solution?
I use Windows 7 32 bits.
Edit:
Heres an image:

After quitting the game, try adding language = en to the end of your minetest.conf file (open it using a text editor), then save it.

Alright...
Result: I did what you said... Still the same
Edit: The file is named minetest.conf.example for me, not minetest.conf. Is it a different file?

Yes, it is. You should have a minetest.conf file in the directory where you run Minetest.

Make sure you installed Minetest in a path where you have permissions, that is, not Program Files. C:\Games\Minetest is however a perfect place, if you can (create directories if needed).
