segfault when starting to dig materials

hello, i'm new to the forum and to the game. i just tried to dig something, but as soon as i started i got a segfault. this is what i got with a terminal:

i'm on ubuntu 11.10 and i installed the latest version of the ppa

Could be the video drivers. Go System Settings - Additional Drivers, if it suggest something, install it.

EDIT That's for Classic Gnome. If you use Unity go to dash and search for jockey.

it's already installed, but it still crashes

ATI and Linux is a possible cause, using packages is also a possible cause.
Try using a self-compiled version.

This is a driver issue
If you can think it, you can make it.
