Compiling on Windows 7 vs Ubuntu

by rubenwardy » Fri Sep 21, 2012 17:36

I have both Visual C++ 2010 (Windows 7) and Codeblocks (Ubuntu).

Which one is easier to setup and compile on?

Windows took me about 2 to 3 hours to download all the stuff you need and get my first working build (no sound). Linux took about 5 minutes to do a build. Maybe 15 if you count the package download time.

Took me about 20 minutes to do a build on Windows. Linux was shorter - a mere five.

On Windows try MinGW and MSYS. Compiles just like in Linux ;). The one drawback are the dependencies - you must compile them yourself.

And it's a big drawback. I gave up about compiling on Windows and I installed Debian in VirtualBox instead, personally. :P
