Where did you place the mods after extracting them? You need to place them in the "mods" folder in the Minetest directory.

No, it doesn't work like that. You extract the mod archive, then put it in (your Minetest directory)/mods.

Softonic is a website that spreads malware, you should consider uninstalling it and installing Minetest from the official website: http://minetest.net

The game may not have a mod folder by default; just create it if there isn't one.

I am on the Voxelands Forums more often than here.

I cannot find the minetest directory. I'm a disabled veteran with neurological issues, and thus a VERY basic ubuntu user...

I'd be grateful for any help. :(

From where and what version of minetest did you download/install?

Maybe this helps you a bit.

http://wiki.minetest.net/Installing_Mods :

The common place to install them is $path_user/mods/. That is minetest-install-directory/mods/ in the official windows releases and RUN_IN_PLACE versions on Linux and ~/.minetest/mods/ in globally installed Minetest versions.
