I sure hope I have done this correctly, and not causing any offense.
This is a revision of bas080's original "flags" mod. I really like it, and having animated flags is cool but, when I went to use the original mod it did not work.
I tinkered with it to get it to work various ways, and I am not great with Lua yet, so I did my best. It works for me now and thought others may like it. I have noticed posts in this and another flags mod, the fact people liked the idea but bas080's seems to have gone unupdated?, and the other simply faded out.
I added flag posts, and pink and brown flags, among other tweaks.
Please let me know if I have not followed correct procedures in revising this nice mod of bas080's and I will fix it per instructions.
My Lua script is definitely the long way around for this but as I said, I simply did the best I know to get it to work for me : )

Depends = default and wool
License = WTFPL (as per bas080's orig license) though I wish I could change it to WYWPL if they agree.
Installation = Change folder name to "flags" and move it to your mods folder

This is an older mod bas080 created with animations, it's a really nice mod.
I chose to revise it, rather than to fork it, and simply update the version to 1.2, but unsure if I should have added it to the original mod post or just make a new post..., I chose the latter.
I plan to edit the flags so they do not have the black borders but, when I have time to do so.
I "may" split it off later with a mod which covers national flags, and a Jolly Roger. Not sure yet

you should show them moving with a gif instead of a screenshot

Hey, that's a good idea... please hold.
This may take a bit, Add being lousy at animation to my list :P
I have to break down the tiled animation and convert it to a gif, because these type of animated .png files are different than web APNG files. You know who is really good at animation..., my daughter. But she is away at a friend's house today : /

Alrighty then. I'll try a fork (have not done it before
and have no idea how to, nor what is a pull request (never done that before either)
Are you saying you would like this post pulled down? Still new to modding and git, and I want to do what you are requesting, just need to know how

I just set up the fork for my repo. Do I request pull request from there? or from your flags repo?
I want to do this right, and I really do not want to screw up your repo by mistake

I'm reading up on it now. I just get nervous of messing up other's work. I already hacked the init.lua to crap haha. I just registered all nodes because I do not know how to use the hues features, and the naming for hues must have changed? because that is where I was getting errors.
Anyway, I'll figure this out eventually
