This is just something I stumbled on by accident that has become useful;
Placing the blocks has an x-ray effect allowing you to see thru materials.
Its nothing fancy, but I use it every now and then when mining.

edit: added more screenshots / updated textures

changed topic name and updated the "mod" textures.
I didnt really consider this to be a mod, but I tend to use it alot.

I had a problem with this mod. If I don't have no-clip on with free-move, I only see black. At some angles, it will glitch and show me caves, but it's usually black.

It doesn't work with 'connected_glass = true'
but if you haven't altered it I guess that wouldn't matter.
I don't know man, it works fine for me.
I know toggling Night/Day helps and so does toggling fly mode,
I just tested it in a new game with no privs and it works for me.

Okay, that's what it is. I do use connected glass. Thanks for the reply! :-D

nah that shouldn't matter though unless you changed the mod to support connected glass.

I just tested it without connected glass and had the same result.

There also has to be something behind the xray blocks (even if it's just another xray block),
or else the empty space looks like black blocks

Yeah, I'm putting them directly against blocks. Like I said, it works fine with no-clip + fly. I haven't tested it without mods. Maybe that's what's happening. If I make a stock world, I might get a different result.
EDIT: I just tried it with a newly made stock world. Above ground, the RemoteView blocks work just fine. Below ground, they transition between black and dimly lit depending on my angle of looking through them. Could this be the result of graphics settings?

I saw such a block on a server a while ago, it was a "Spyblock". I guess it was from Various Mod (
viewtopic.php?id=1013 ).

Okay... I tried lowering all of my graphics settings to no quality and got the same results. Then, I happened to notice something interesting. Looking below me, I could see part of my own cave through the RemoteView blocks since they were lit by my torches. This tells me that the blocks are working but my skybox has turned dark. I get this same problem very rarely on the surface when looking at certain points in the world. It must be the same problem happening constantly while underground. It seems to be a lighting/shading error involving the skybox.
