Getting free/libre music for a mod isn't easy. But check out https://libre.fm/ and see if there's something that matches your interests.
Please also provide a way to select the current track. I suggest you to collect songs from all genres because you can't create a music list that everyone likes.

Instead of adding music to the mod you can make music packs. Have a pack for different genres. People can download the pack they like. Just add instructions on where to put the files.

I say have the mod look in a folder structure for music, that way people can create any lists they want.

And another good source for free music Newgrounds.com, I got some music from there and the artists only require you to link back to them when you use their stuff.

Say that to me, I have 50 newgrounds songs on my pc...
And I injected one in the main menu. That's simple:
  1. Go in your minetest directory (usually ~/.minetest)
  2. Create a "sounds" folder
  3. Pick a music file (OGG format, mono), rename it to "main_menu.ogg" and move it in the sounds folder
  4. Enjoy

You know what would be really cool for minetest, this mod with the ability to link a url and stream music while you play.

For servers, it would be client load, where you could click a button in your inventory and activate the servers pre-selection of mucis.

I base this off of my second life experience a long time ago.

The land in second life could have a url for audio and one for video, it was up to user to turn this on.

Minetest needs this option for other reasons as well, like two way chat via something like teamspeak or the like.

Announce:

As the mod will have a formspec and a more polished player with menu, i decide to make 2 versions, the normal, and the non-laggy...

The normal will have formspec, that is a music player with logo even, i will do a version with different skins, you will choose one as you like,
Example: When you download the mod, there is the default (normal if i can say...) skin, grey, and neutral, there is a user called "Rastatest" if he wants he can download the rasta skin for mod, and play his music with an interface that he likes!

The skin system is this:
-You download the zip with the pack.
-You extract it in textures and replace old textures.
-Enjoy!

I don't post this in the first topic because it's something very new and i am testing with it, it's and idea, but it can be done, i finish the first formspec working version and then i will do the first skin (The reggae one, because a friend request it to me), normally this will be change textures (Something simply) but that change will make your mod better for you.

The skin classification will work this way:

-First the type of skin, if it's about pop or gospel.
-Second the resolution of the skin, from 512x to small 16x
This depends of the class of computer you got.
The default skin is x64, maybe run laggy, so install a 16x skin of a type you want, and then probably will run not so laggy.

This is a system that i design to make more big the experience of the mod.

The non-laggy (the version that is more fast?) version don't have formspecs or skins.
Only a tool that plays and stops the music with an only click.
But well i will do some textures for this one too!
Every track have his own tool.

So it's hard in survival to get one!

But if you want this mod and run it without lag (or low-FPS) then you download this one.
And the /giveme can be useful this time!

Yes, Jamendo is a great spot to get free music, i have a band on there called MEMEZ. check it out!
