This mod allows players on server to choose "sheriffs", who can oppose greafers.
Sheriffs can use commands /mute, /unmute, /jail and /kicks (depending on their vote count).

Cool idea. I suggest you look into the vote mod, if you don't want to have to make players go to a position (which is a bad idea for UX)

I know about vote mod and i was thinking about using it, but in the end i decided that the more players are involved in the process, the better.
They need craft voting table, go to place, get gold ingot somewhere, this all is part of the game.
May-be this is also the reason i called it "Sheriff" and not "Moderator" Just was too lazy and added sheriff powers by chat command, and not like "when sheriff hit you with his sheriff sword, you go in jail".

What is UX?

User experience.
Making a block requires all the players to walk to one place. What if the place is hard to reach? Could be used to rig voting.

This mod needs some precautions:
+ much bigger vote count (like 20)
+ only long-term (>1 year activity) player accounts with password set can vote
+ guests can't vote
+ there must be the way to unsheriff the bastard
+ limited work period of sheriff (for example 6 months or less) then he leaves and new elections start (by voting again).

Without this server will turn into the mess.

As i tested this mod predecessor kick_voting for more than year, the needed vote count of 6 was reached only several times. Also, guests usually don't have gold bar to vote.
Well, your second point makes sense...
You got it wrong, sheriff is not elected permanently, his powers are in effect only until he is downvoted. Also, every server restart he loses one vote.
And, of course, people can place multiple voting boxes with same person name.

So far results are fine.
Not like sheriff system is ideal, but i think it is better than just carelessly choosing group of moderators.

Also, now i have good excuse for all those people, who say "Hey, your server is a mess/griefed/too much cheaters, you absolutely need to make me moderator/boss/admin here, so i can ban anyone i don't like."

It does have some bug, like voting "20 of 6", or something like that
