Swamp Biome and Underwater Plant Life

Anyone thought about a mod for under water plant life?

Maybe some corals reefs, sea grass, starfish, and what not. There could be different colors for Coral reefs that can be additional use for dye or other uses for some stuff... ( no more tools sets please <_<) Just to make the underwater view better looking.

Also a Swamp/Marsh biome for more plant life like vine (for jungles too) willow and cypress trees, cattails, and maybe poison ivy. Also the tree barks could be covered with moss and maybe have fog.

Just food for thought.

underwater plants wouldnt look good, the water doesn't passthrough, so you have this block of air inside/around your plant node :/

Then allow them to pass through

yesh, or use a water source-cube around the ''plantlike'' textures of the plant, if it's possible (may need some patches)

I love this idea. i have already really trying to push the level of diversity in minetest with some degree of success. ive been mostly pleased with the plantlife and more trees mods. im using the ambiance mod and i love it. i have been unable to get vines or the swamps running yet. i am running the snow and biome mod and mostly pleased with that so far. the canyon/river mod is pretty cool too and i have not seen any of the things people are complaining about with some of the similar mods in the community. i would readilly jump at more plant, cave flora and fauna, as mentioned underwater life (the mob and animals mod has fish and kicks ass), more animals in general maybe some that are dangerous. maybe some of the plants could also be food. bushes with berries, strawberries etc.

in short i am all for the underwater flora and fauna if it can be done and especially if we can get some new products from them.

((ps: I will be trying the economy mod with the rest of these too. ;) ))

More life would be nice, especially under water. There are some reasons those didn't develop much:
- underwater nodes get an 'aircube' around them. There's a workaround for this, using entities, however
- the amount of entities is maximized to 50 and they're not able to transmit light
- you can see under water, but it's pretty dark

i read the thread and in many ways i am way ahead of this old thread. i am aware of the challenges and that in no way changes my feelings on the issue. why dont we discuss some possible options instead of telling me that my feelings and ideas have been discussed and labled invalid by those writing code because they have decided it is too difficult. :)

I have as of yet been unable to even get the swamp biome mod to run it always asks for the init.lua file even though it is already there i also have this problem with all of 080's mods includong vines and the "habitat" mod both of which i want very much to add to my current build.

Except for entities and nodeboxes there's also this 'cheat' possible (last 2 alinea's (including image) of this post (45) of Sokomine):

Changing the blocks around an 'airblock' can also take the airblock away (and is also a form of cheating), see version 0.3.0 of the sea mod (post 1 of the same link).
