Build your world from the ground up (including the ground) :p
no mapgen, no ore generation, few ABMs. Ive tweaked a lot of stuff in default, and got rid of default tools. Contains the most recent versions of bookmarks, hydro, lights, multinode, riventest, staircase, ruler and madbricks/fireplace. Which you'll need to run my maps, otherwise you can use whatever mods you want (ie
Worldedit to build your own maps )
extract to PROGRAMS_ PATH/minetest/games
WTFPL for my parts
default: same as original (see README.txt)

Yes, spheres-cities, connected by
teleport pads. Spheres could be larger (r>=100), and placed in larger increments. Some of spheres could be filled by dirt, coal, mese (like in normal maps).
Or
google images > Flying islands ...half spheres.

What about big flying islands, with flat top, forests and lakes on it?

Cool remix. Will check it out. And will keep my eyes on this. Making such crazy versions of the game can lead to some awesome gameplay.
One ABM that I would propose is the dirt turning to dirt_with_grass.

What happened to flying islands. I miss flying islands.

Only one problem:
-You call it ''Ultra Minimal'' yet it's more of a modpack. What if someone just wants nullspace, and not an entire modpack?
Also, can you maybe make a version that doesn't contain all of your ''favorite mods'' and texture packs, and somehow, don't disable the default mod(s), except for making MapGen stop map-genning?
That would be more of ''Null Space'', as of now it's more like ''My modpacks and half of my PC's hard drive data, and something that stops generating land and ores''
:P

Hey, where did the locked gates come from? Is there a new mod I'm unaware of?

I think i specifically mentioned in the OP that people should try it with different mods. The mods i put there are simply the ones i play with, and they do provide some essential functions for building a world from scratch. Though anyone is free to add or remove to them, it's no different than what you do with minetest_game, I shouldn't have to coddle anyone and plug in their favorite mods for them.
SegFault22 wrote: texture packs
Dont even know what you're talking about
SegFault22 wrote:, and somehow, don't disable the default mod(s),
So you complain its not minimal enough, but you don't want me to disable anything either. 0_o

5mb = 4.31034482759e-06 of my storage capacity, your argument is invalid.

You're twisting my words.
I'm sure that a lot of people would like a real ''ultra-minimal'' game mode...if only that was possible...
Or a ''NoMap'' mode, that has all default mods, but doesn't generate any map at all...maybe someone could make that...
Also, upon removing your mods from the game, I could not use worldedit, or even /give myself anything at all, with worldedit and <default> installed (default installed in the games > Nullspace > mods folder). Why is this?

UPDATE: Success for Windows! I needed to use Minetest4.2RC1 and I didn't have any of the problems below, but I did need to use advanced tab and log in as mauvebic. Singleplayer still just gives me empty sky.
-----------------------------
I'm all confussed. I took this build of minetest minetest-0.4.dev-20120606-c57e508-win32 and put the ultra minimal folder into the games folder, put the map in my worlds folder, and when I enter singleplayer all I see is blue sky, clouds, the sun & moon, and blue below me. I thought I'd see what was in mauvebic's screenshots, or at least a sphere or two. This really is ultra minimal null space. There aint squat. Sure I'm getting 65 FPS, but there aint nothin to do but look at the stars. :(
So then I tried the Advanced tab, and logged in as mauvebic and I get the following error:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.

See my edited post. Minetest 4.2RC1 solved the problem. At least for advanced tab. Looks awesome!

Yeah singleplayer will spawn you somewhere outside the first sphere. Id recommend using free move and 'R' to see where you are. Or use /go s1 thatll take you somewhere solid :-)
edit: released updates for nullspace and the map :-)

This topic really needs to be moved into the "Maps" section of the forums. I say this because this is better than most if not all of the stuff in the Maps area (and there is a shoratge of maps in general). And when people are looking for a cool world/place to explore that is where they go to look for it. And most maps do include modpacks anyway.

Ill have another update tomorrow - we're at 6 Ages now, 3 of which we really built up today :-)
As for moving the thread - topic move thread is gone so i figure the mods will know where and when to move it :-)

Since you've made this, how about you make a game mode where no map is generated, but all defaults are kept? I tried that but the whole world was completely dark (even in daytime!), textures for the sides/top/bottom of nodes have to be loaded by placing/removing a node next to that side/face, and none of the mods from the Minetest mods folder were loading. I had to put Worldedit in the game mode's mods folder to use it.

Like Neuromancer, I too am getting dumped in the middle of big-blue nowhere when I start new worlds with this mod.
I tried /go s1 and get a message that there is no such destination.
I tried /listgo and am told there are no destinations to list.
"R" (full distance), "F3" (no fog), "Free move/Fast move" enabled, spent several minutes flying around and still no land mass to be seen.
There is nothing in the inventory either, even in "creative" mode. I remember reading that you had cut a lot of inventory items out. Did you remove *everything* or is this an indication that I didn't install the mod properly?
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, Minetest 0.4.3, put /ultra-minimal in the /usr/share/minetest/games folder along with /minetest_game and /minimal, after creating a new world using the Null Space [ultra-minimal] I granted all priveleges (/grant singleplayer all).
Is there a Minetest command to give the coordinates of the nearest dirt node or whatever node type this mod would generate the land mass from?
Thanks.
