since no one seems to have made an actual armor mod i have an idea,we could make a simple mod where when you craft armor (with a material, maybe even wood) it can be used as food, like you are low on health, so you put on armor to increase it. if i can probably make and so can you guys, I'm not real good at coding so i will probably have to use an existing food mods code(at the least some of it) I'm so sorry I made you read this long and boring topic. let me know if you want me to make it...

I do not think an idea is stupid, I do not know almost nothing about moding and I created my own mod, also I think the armor would be a great addition to the mod animals, is the adding more mobs ...
the mobs are hard to kill and do too much damage ...
you could also include talismans to increase the damage the mobs ...

I imagine it this way:

reinforcement could be of the following materials:

  • weak armor:

    • wool = 1 level of protection
    • Leather = 2 levels
    • Wood = 3 levels
  • medium armor:

    • Clay = 4 levels
    • stone = 5 levels
    • coal = 6 levels
  • legendary armor:

    • steel = 7 levels
    • gold = 8 levels
    • liquid gold = highlander (not die, requires armor gold and talisman liquid gold), (could have a very high difficulty of drop in the crafting)
  • talismans:

    • water: fire protection
    • Air: Increases attack power of all weapons 1 level (could be done with chicken feathers)
    • Stone of beasts: Decrease damage from animals such as the lovo (could be done with a lovo tooth or a leg)
    • Lava immunity to plasma
    • liquid gold (legendary): increases the life for damage taken over X attacks (necessary to make the armor of gold), (could have a very high difficulty of drop in the crafting)

Seem's like a cool idea. I don't think the idea is stupid either.

Minetest already has armour, but you cant edit it. (It is in metadata form)

(When you hover over a player it tells you their armour)

Maybe if you use/extend this

The methods get_armor_groups() and set_armor_groups() dont work for players. They work only for entities.

HO
IDEA: when you eat the armor your hearts turn in grey or it creates another armor bar and you take only a half of the damage [1/2 of the healt bar and 1/2 from the armor bar] !!!

Modifying a line of code is difficult? Edible armor would be cool, in a way. Nom nom nom.
