FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

I have tried a few mods recently, such as LocaL_ALchemisT's snow biome mod, an I have noticed that you have to start a new world for these to take effect. Is there any way to rewrite the world apart from a small section (I.E. Your house/village)?

Mods that change the generation algorithm (such as snow biome) need new map areas. So you can use your old world but there dont spawn snow biomes in the already explored part. You have to go to new areas.
