Minecraft has a feature where the player can be viewed by pressing a button. As I am aware of, there is no way to view your character on Minetest. Is there any way that we can have/do this too? I love this game and would love to see this feature.

I mean it is possible. You would just have to move the camera then you would be able to see yourself.

You can't, but that could easily be done.

Two reasons:
1) Devs do what devs want. Devs haven't wanted it.
2) First Person Adventure games are somewhat rare.
... this reminds me of the time somebody asked for "First person view" in 0 AD. Yeah, it can be done- just attach the camera to the selected entity- but it won't be done, because nobody on the dev team has wanted to do it, and nobody else submitted a patch. It's also something more of a minority feature; engine tweaks done to satisfy a minority usually lead to Feature Creep.

I really do hope that someone can make this happen for Minetest one day. It will make skin selection an easier task.

Why have 3rd person? Its kinda useless.

To see the creepers come up behind you. Or to admire your skin of awesomeness. That's all I can think of. If we could engine-code per game mode whether 3rd person was enabled by default, toggleable, or blocked would be awesome.

Because we are Minetest, not Minecraft.
Just because Minecraft has something, does not mean we have to have it.
If MC added pokemon to their game, would we have to add it to our game by default?

You need to add the model of you current player first, because if you moved the camera, there would be nothing there.
Also the animations would be laggy.

All I meant was that it would be nice to have it available for those that wanted it. Like tinoesroho suggested, it could be a simple key button or command feature. Those that don't want it wouldn't have to use it. This game is incredible, just wanted to voice an opinion and hope I didn't offend anyone in the process.

I agree in so many ways, minetest is minetest not mineCRAP, I play this game because i like its difference (and it is free).

even if we're Minetest,we still have to have 3rd person! why do they call Minetest the clone of Minecraft? because it is! we have to get 3rd person! we must beat Minecraft and make Minetest the best game ever!!(also it could be best cause its free and it should stay free in order to be the best game lol.)

Minetest is as I call it, a block based game similar to minecraft. Should we add creepers, blazes, and mooshrooms just because minecraft has them and in order to be a better game we HAVE to have everything minecraft has?

I dont see the point the 3rd person. This is Minetest, and it is heading in a different direction then MC.

Slow but sure people are creating mods that add functionality simliar to MineCraft so wait and see what becomes available... It doesn't HAVE to be included in the game itself, let's keep that lean and fast...

3D person IMO is a neat feature, but we don't need it because MineCrap. We might 'want' it because it is neat.

EDIT:I don't really want monsters for minetest, but animals would be nice,
I don't really want MT to be better than MC.

3rd person with a slightly different control scheme would be nicer. That way 3rd person won't feel awkward.

Yeah, I have played minecraft, and I know how awkward 3rd person mode is.

I still wonder why everyone thinks we should be a 1:1 copy of Minecrap. Honest.
1)
A: We made modding the game / engine easy.
B: They copied US.
2)
A: We made single images for blocks (nodes)
B: They lazily did that to "make texturing easy" my ass.
3)
A: We made making gamemodes such as dwarves, technic_game and PilzTest easily installable.
B: They make "resource packs", which sound like a mod pack, which in essence they ARE.
4) Mojang has run out of ideas to milk Minecraft with, that's why they NEED the modders, hoping to keep them around so they can say they are the most played. It's all about ratings at Mojang now. Just trying to get the attention of other people. (Attention seekers should be ignored)

I knew Mojang would run out of ideas for MC sooner, some games only have so much content you can add. Minetest is going uphill, as it is becoming well-known an popular :) I never knew that MC copied MT....
