FOSS gamedev and creative worlds

Okay, I'm sure there are other topics but this issues is with EVERY mod I cannot for the life of me get any what so ever to work and its starting to frustrate me, I'm running linux mint maya, and 0.4.7 of minetest I've even downloaded mods that say they work with 4.7 but still won't work they all give me the error for init.lua :/ any ideas?
