[Mod] Floors/Flooring [0.1] [floors]

by Dan Duncombe » Fri Oct 25, 2013 13:16

Hello there, another mod!
This adds floors for most major flooring materials in the default game. A piece of floor is 1/16 of a node thick, and when placed is at the top of the node. This means that you can walk directly underneath it. This is great when making houses, because it can be a node shorter in height and still seem the same inside.
Make the saw by placing 1 stick in the left, and 2 steel ingots on the right, all in a line.
Place the compatible node above the saw in a crafting grid to get 16 of the floor type. You keep the saw.

Very nice! You should make it so that you can craft flooring with default blocks! For example Cactus Flooring that can do damage etc...

You CAN craft them with default blocks, ie stone, wood etc.No cactus though, because most people don't make cactus floors, and you would only get hurt while underneath it.

Sorry, I only guessed since I haven't tried out yet. You should add a cactus floor, for traps for players, you know. >:)

Hi Dan,

I'm downloading the mod now, will try it out and give you some feedback on it later.

Edit: I didnt want to double post, so I'm just adding my first comments here.
Could you please include a Readme in the download that gives basic instructions for using the mod?
I'm going back to Minetest now to build a new house and continue trying out your mod.

Edit 2:The mod does seem to be useful for both floors and other things.
I tried stone, desert stone, default wood, jungle wood, sandstone and sandstone brick flooring. They all seem to work as intended. If you could place other blocks up against the flooring on both the bottom and top that would be wonderful, but I suspect that isnt possible in minetest. I'll try using the screwdriver tool on flooring and see what happens.

Here is a screen-shot of a plant stand on the desert stone floor mod floor.
The floor, and the shelves in the plant stand are both made using flooring panels from your mod.

I cropped and scaled-down the screen-shot to try and make it fit the forum page a little better. Hopefully it will give you a general idea of how the flooring looks.

Edit 3: Just as an experiment I tried the screwdriver tool on the flooring, but it had no effect.

What setting was it set too? Different settings rotate stuff in different ways.

I tried all four screwdriver modes, but didnt notice any effect on the flooring panels.
