In this case, maybe just keep the default one (there is no point in redoing them in 16x imo)
I made a few (a lot of?) mods for minetest: here is a list.

I like most textures.
My favorite one is default_jungletree.png.
But there are some I'd change:
- the ingots need some shiny effect
- default_grass_1.png - default_grass_5.png somehow don't look like grass
- the tools look "fat" (not with "ph" :D)
- the gravel texture needs some detail

I have an alternate gravel texture you can use if you like (WTFPL):
Image
(Maybe the contrast is a bit too high.)

Keep up the good work. :)

That gravel actually looks nice. I'll add it to the repo :-P
EDIT: added (and you're the first to contribute textures ;) )

I am not going through all the tools to make them thinner. If anyone else wants to, go ahead, but I still like the fat ones better. I am not trying to be mean, but that is going to be very boring to do. :P

Didn't have the impression that you were trying to be mean. :P
I know it's a lot of work to put such a texture pack together and I really appreciate you guys are doing this.
Maybe I'll do the tools and some more textures if I find the time for it.
Not necessarily to replace yours, rather as alternate textures, for I think a texture pack likes this needs a folder with alternates. ;)

Damn, you pushed the wool textures while I was doing them :-P
I'll put mines as alternatives if you don't mind.
EDIT: If I do that, I'll start making a python script/API to choose between textures.

Lol, that's why I said I should designate some textures for you to do, and some for me to do.

I'm working on bookshelves and water/lava atm. Zeg also added support for his protector mod, and PilzAdam's nether mod.

I'm currently working on the "customize" script, so feel free to add alternatives to the current textures :D
(Please use subfolders alt[1-3] for alternative textures)

Okay. I will start once we get all the default textures done. Also would you mind sending me the code? I have never done anything like that, and I think it would be a good learning experience.

Yep, but the script requires a CGI-capable server with python 2.{6,7} installed.
Also I'm going to rewrite the website using python, then publish it on sourceforge.

I honestly don't know that much about websites, even though I know a good amount of CSS and HTML. So I guess it's up to you on this one. :-)

Alright, this new website: http://mt-faithful.sourceforge.net/ has the customizer (open beta ;-) ).
I have to update it manually, so next time I update the customizer will be on the first release.

Source code for the website is available at: https://sourceforge.net/p/mt-faithful/website-code/ci/master/tree/

Please note that the customize part is broken and I don't have time to fix it today.

How do you make your textures? By that I mean do you make it pixel by pixel or do you draw it with the paint brush and change what you don't like
Sometimes, it's harder to think up a mod than it is to create it.

What I do is resize the default textures to 32x32 (with interpolation turned off) and make all the changes to them (usually pixel by pixel). Then I use the rub and blur tools to do smoothing. Idk how zeg does it though, you would have to ask him.

The progress you've made is great. :)

I've got another alternate texture you can use if you like (WTFPL):

No, it's perfectly fine. It's not like we have a deadline, take as long as you want. :P

I'll be away for 3 weeks, starting in 8 days, so I prefer doing stuff fast :-P
Website is fixed btw.

Evergreen wrote:Also, would you allow me to be able to change code on the sourceforge website? My username is evergreentree. EDIT (also to Zeg9): You focus your time on the website, I can handle the textures. ;-)

I'll add you soon; Here are the commands to update the texture pack server-side:
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
$ cd <mt-faithful root directory, where all the .png are>
$ sftp evergreentree@web.sourceforge.net
sftp> cd /home/project-web/mt-faithful/minetest-tp-faithful
sftp> put *.png
sftp> cd alt1
sftp> put alt1/*.png

EDIT: you can also use a GUI such as filezilla or fireftp but do NOT put the .git folders.

If there are alt2 or alt3 added, don't forget to mkdir it before cd (or you'll get errors :-P)

Also if you want to experiment with the python script, please first get a working copy on a local web server (I use apache).
Setting the website might take you some time, the stuff in "htdocs" have to be at the root of the server, while "cgi-bin/*" must be in your cgi-bin directory (distribution dependent), and "content", "templates", and others in the parent of cgi-bin. Also you have to git clone the texture pack in that parent folder. EDIT: git submodule init should download the texture pack, too.

I can upload my httpd.conf if needed, it is set up so you can just drop all the website files in /srv/http/
