Iron is the thing you mine from the stone.
Steel(is comparable to improved iron) = coal + iron

Too many ores = Running out of color for textures.

You could try giving each ore its own unique look.

The reason I stated "Running out of color for textures" is because that exactly what I'm running into (or at least I did before) due to the color schemes looking nearly identical. They confuse players (at least for me they do) when they mine in the caves.

If you are running out of colors, make unique shapes for the ores. Things like veins, crystals, etc.

I wouldn't mind having a few extra ores added to the game, tin, silver and mithril would come in handy if they had specific uses... Adding tiny o copper gives bronze (change the recipe), gold and silver for currency but mithril ??

i still think adding too many ores is a bad idea we already have like 6 and half don't have specific use.

My only concern really is when a new ore is added, a new set of tools crop up from them. That gets tedious. If a new ore has to be added, make it so it has other properties besides tools (in fact, some shouldn't be tools at all).

For example: Pyrite - It's more shinier and sparkles more than Gold, but it's not precious metal. So making a tool with Pyrite would be stupid because Pyrite shatters when it hits against something hard. You can't make pyrite into an ingot either because it's not stable. So what properties does Pyrites have? In today's world it's useless (Fools Gold they called it), but it was once used as an ingredient for Black Powder (along with Sulfur and Charcoal). Another use for Pyrite is dye, again you can't smelt Pyrite because it corrodes into a dark brown dust.

That's just an example of an ore that's not tool worthy which I think we need more of to avoid another wave of tools.

Tin is mainly common as an alloy along with copper to make bronze, so unless it's to make bronze, then okay. But Tin alone can make Flasks (renaming vessels_steel_bottle to vessels_tin_bottle instead) which can help players save up iron.
