I've been seeing you signing on and off repeatedly.

bulldog1, twoelk and I seem to have no trouble signing on and playing - are you absolutely certain you are running a VERY recent git development build and not 0.4.7-stable or some older git copy? "I am using one of the links provided in the first post" doesn't help me much, because not all of them are necessarily up-to-date all the time, and in the case of sfan5's link, there are many builds available.

Please give me the link to the exact file you downloaded -- not the page you got it from, but the actual downloadable .zip or .7z or .exe or whatever.

Hi VanessaE. I still can't connect too. And I'm having two distinct problems. Sometimes the games stays forever on "Connecting to server" message and if I press Esc and try again I receive the "Another client is connected with this name" message, when media is half loaded (even if I wait about 5 minutes to connect again).

I'm using the latest git version. Just compiled it.

There's been some discussion on IRC about these problems tonight. No one's entirely sure what's going on though, but a fix should be available soon-ish.

ok try for now reverting to a sligtly oldr version of minetest like just one build older or more. oh and how do i log on to irc?

For IRC, you just need to get a client such as hexchat (Windows), xchat (Linux), or something similar, go to the Freenode network, and join channel #minetest (with the # sign).

I'm not inclined to install builtin_item, as technic already has some of its functionality, so that would be two mods competing for the same function.

As for skins mod, I'm happy with what I'm using now - if you want to install a skin, just point me to the one you want and I'll install it.

Sure but as yet, no one has written one. The closest I know of is the Hovercraft mod, which this server already has.

The process of setting up a server differs from one system to the next because of differences in hardware, OS, how your copy of Minetest is installed, your personal needs/preferences, etc., but generally you need to:

1. Create a suitable world (easiest to do using the regular Minetest client)
2. Make sure you can run the server process on that new world (e.g. nothing crashes, all your intended mods work).
3. Make sure you can connect to the server from a client on the same machine (e.g. by going to IP address 127.0.0.1).
4. Make sure your firewall and router allow for incoming connections and forwarding of whatever port you want to use (usually 30000).
5. Make sure you can reach the server from a remote location, such as a neighbor's computer.
6. Use some kind of DNS service such as afraid.org so that your address is easy to remember.
7. Make sure you configure your Minetest server to announce to the master servers list so that people can easily find you.

failed to load test shaders does that matter? Wow random block appear when loading inventory

TheGeneral: If shaders don't work for you, it's usually easiest to just disable them (checkbox in the "Settings" menu). They don't work for a lot of people because they're written in a language (GLSL) that many Windows systems don't understand.

Ok folks, I think the server's back to normal, working order thanks to some debugging by celeron55. Existing post-July-22 clients should work just fine as before. Still needs testing to be sure.

Everything is ok now. Don't know about older versions, but my client was updated on August 6. Thank you, VanessaE and celeron55. :-)

sigh. My luck with client change so I haven't been on.

The server suffered a drive failure (the solid state disk that most of the important stuff ran from), and some data was lost, namely the last two days' worth of changes to the world. Sorry about that folks, I did my best to restore what I could. The server will be back online later today after I finish re-installing my system.

When the server comes back up, you may notice a few undefined entities here and there floating around, left over from some testing that was being done on the backup recently - just 'kill' them when you see them. Otherwise, everything should be as it was last on Wednesday.

EDIT: The server is back up and running normally, if a bit slower than it used to be (G*d I am so spoiled, running the client from a hard disk drive is so slow by comparison).
