Bug on Vista

by meweb » Thu Aug 08, 2013 21:38

My friend was trying to install Minetest on his laptop, It goes in a loop trying to start. Some sort of Access Violation. Computer details:
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista

IDK what's going on, but the command promt goes in a loop trying to load.

I had the exact same thing happen for me on my Vista laptop. I don't use the laptop very much so after trying to get it to work for an hour or so, I stopped trying and haven't tried since. This was around a month or so ago, right before v0.4.7 came out I think.

Your friend still uses Vista?!

*snicker*

Sorry. Upgrade to 7 or 8 or switch to Ubuntu.
7:42 PM - Bauglio: I think if you go to staples you could steal firmware from a fax machine that would run better than win10 does on any platform
7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build
7:43 PM - Bauglio: get the staple build

Sometimes not an option. I know I will never upgrade to Windows 8. I would use 7 but by the time I got the money for it it would be pretty much non-existent. I can't even upgrade my desktop right now because I don't have the money. You use what you have or you don't. Sometimes there is no upgrade. And before you suggest I use Linux on my Vista laptop, you should know that I did try to install it once a few weeks back using Linux Mint and it went into an unbreakable loop during bootup. My laptop does not seem to be Linux friendly because it did that the last time I tried Ubuntu years ago.

I'm just guessing Minetest isn't Vista friendly. And my computer isn't capable of running 7 or 8. But my brother needs certain features on Vista. :/

It isn't an OS issue -- it is more likely to be a graphic driver issue, or a path issue.

Start the game in a path that doesn't have any special characters (such as é).

Graphic drivers are up to date, but I have had problems with other games in the past. (Minecraft included)

For my laptop, it wasn't the path because I used different paths. I even used my desktop and My Documents to try and run it and no go. It could be video driver but if it is, I think I'm out of luck because as far as I know my video driver hasn't been updated in years and probably never will be again. My laptop was purchased after Vista had been out for 1 to 3 years. We're now two versions past so it is probably at least 5 years old.
