too bad you couldn't run hourly backups from solid state to hd but that could slow things down. maybe every couple of hours.

I could do that, but given the size of the map (~1.5GB) it would indeed slow things down greatly, plus backups on my system are written to an external (USB) disk that's usually kept turned off. That said, maybe every 6 hours would be okay, just copying the live world from where it usually sits to another always-on drive.

Also, sorry for the server going down again briefly. I'm not sure my system is entirely stable yet.

well nevermind about my hotel being finished, as for inocudom we need to redo your Munchies Messhall in the theatre. Im going to try to finish my Hotel today by 4:30 CST. I also need to take down My mall again

Vanessa...I logged on successfully and played for a good many hours a week or so ago...today I've tried a half dozen versions of the client and either get an error message or stare at a loading screen...

Rather than drag you through each client I tried and RErecount the problems you already heard, could you simply provide a direct link to a single client that works? Perhaps the version that you yourself choose to use?

PS. I have tried both with the preloading on and off...when I previously played I used the pre-loading without a problem.

As an aside...the DOS window is showing a bunch of rat mesh errors...guessing these are to be ignored?

OOps, sorry about the mesh errors. Should be fixed now (I forgot to disable the remote media server. Had it enabled for testing, but using it triggers a bug in the reception of mesh data. The devs already know about it).

As for clients, just make sure you always have the latest one that's available from any of the links I put in the first post under "Extra Downloads". Your troubles with logging on might be client bugs (e.g. crashes), or because my server was still a bit unstable earlier today. I'm still cleaning up a little here and there from that drive crash.

Good news everyone (Professor Farnsworth's voice): I have a new drive on order, should be here within the week.

Actually I'd be quite interested in the old one, that is rather how it failed. Do you have any idea why it failed or statistics like how much it was used. We have one solid state HD as an experimental one in use at office, though the important data is stored elsewhere. We use it for our CAD machine and for checking incoming drawings. So far it's really fun to work with but we lost about two years worth of data some three years back due to a harddisk failure and resulting in automatic backup systems destroying even more data. The company had some issues getting back into a working state. Lucky for them I had made a copy of parts of the network to simulate some database stuff I was developing for the company.

I have had a look at the map online now and am irritated about how much of my tunnels are gone :'( Are you sure thats only two days? Hadn't realized I had dug so much ... well I was on the fast office pc - said CAD machine - which is a real pleasure to play minetest on. As my activity comes in bursts I guess it just happens to be the wrong days gone for me .sigh.

btw - can I download the current world-file somewhere? Though only slowly, I am still working on the map to svg thing and would need some more recent data. I have been experimenting on an minecart railsystem overlay but much has changed since the last worldfile I downloaded (20130711). If the files are too large to host the most recent "owners.tbl" and "mod_travelnet.data" would help at the moment. The extracting of the raildata gives some psychodelic results at the moment. Guess I need some more time to fully understand the minetest-mapper and how to override the hardcoded color values. I did swear some years ago to never get involved with any c-code (and any related derivates) anymore - and here I go again.

LOL ...I found my way in by falling asleep and waking up this morning to a timed out but successful login...perhaps I just wasn't patient enough on the load?

is there any way to put the server back to the way it was? if so could you please do that? im getting mad at the elevator's because each time I set one down and put a name on for example: "2ND Floor" it makes a copy of it then I have to 2ND Floor's. Its really irritating.

The server's now running from a brand new Mushkin Chronos Enhanced 120GB solid state disk.

Sorry for the unannounced downtime today - another drive on the server was also failing, and has now been replaced. Everything's up and running normally. No data was lost.

News: Today I've created a second server for people who want to play in Survival mode. It runs my game, with a brand new map (except I copied the spawn over from the Creative server), and has hostile mobs enabled. It also has DanDuncombe's currency mod. Address is vanessae.mine.bz port 30001.

Passwords/privs, ban lists, skins, etc. have been coped from the Creative server so that existing Creative players can sign on and start playing right away -- except no one but me has fly privilege since this is a survival server. Player inventories of course have not been copied except in a couple of cases. Only the spawn is currently owned (by me) since, well...it's up to you folks to build stuff that should be protected! :-)

Both servers are up and ready for normal use.

Er, my servers are not closed, they're open and running as usual. They run the development version of Minetest, so you just need a recent git build to use them. See the first post for several links to different builds, all of which are up-to-date enough for this server.

I went there and everything is ok. Just started my new house.

I agree, one topic may or may not become confusing for the new people... thanks for the survival server :D Yes there is protection, only to be given by Vanessa. I don't quite remember... not glomie's..

Good idea, and done. I've split the survival server off into its own topic (nearly identical to this one, but clearly designated as such, with changes appropriate to that server) and re-edited this one accordingly.

Well, try to join then. She can't downgrade to Minetest 0.4.7 stable, because then half the mods won't work.

You can sign on any time you like, hampa - just get a recent git/development build of Minetest. There's nothing stopping you from joining - no bans, no broken IP records, etc. - except your outdated client.
