You need to have a build with gettext support, then it should use the language of your system.

How have you installed your current version of Minetest?

Using what? A .deb package, or did you compile it yourself?

Using a .deb package. I haven't got an idea how to compile something and I don't really know what "compiling" is. It's something like converting?

Kind of, but that is beside the point. I am not sure if the .deb package includes gettext or not, as I don't really need to use it.
