I don't know if there ports are forwarded and my father controls the firewall, so I don't know.

Like this?

And port forwarding is important.

Absolutely essential part of the puzzle and if you can't do this then no one will ever be able to connect unless you take a VPN setup approach (I've never taken that approach, others would have to comment).

IMO this topic should go to the Servers forum area.

I checked my firewall, and it's not turned on, is this a problem or not?

You will have to modify router settings.

Here's my help for it:

To add a game or application:
go to the Supported Games & Applications page
click Add new game or application
in Game/application name, type the name of your game or application
to create a variant of an application that's already defined in the BT Home Hub, select Yes next to Copy an existing game/application, then select the game/application in the list.
or, to start a new application from scratch, select No
under Protocol, click the protocol that your game or application uses
in the Port Range boxes, type the port range that the game or application uses. First enter the start port of the range, then the end port
in the Translate To boxes, type the port range to which the BT Home Hub has to translate the ports specified under Port Range. First enter the start port of the range, then the end port
click Add
repeat steps 5 to 9 until all rules have been created for your game or application
when you've finished, click Apply to confirm. Your new game or application now appears as a 'user defined' applications on the Supported Games & Application page

EDIT: its for my router.

If you don't want to port forward, you could use a VPN. Several other minetest servers use remobo. Just have you and your friends install it, then have them add you as a buddy or you add them as buddies, and it's like you're on the same network.

I am on the Voxelands Forums more often than here.

Okay, I'll try Remobo, it sounds lots easier then what anything else is saying.
