Multi Map Teleport System

Would it be possible to create a teleport system to transport you to different maps?

That would be really cool, especially if it teleported from server to server.
Working on a sub-game; mostly based texture packs, adventure and soon chemistry...

The problem being if the new world you are going to doesn't have some of the blocks from the previous world and your inventory suddenly has unknown blocks.

and that would be cheating as this would only be really usefull on entering a public survival server

On the same server you could certainly have a mod that keeps track of things between worlds. That could "black out" the player on the origin world (e.g. wend them to a dark, unbreakable "void" room) and change their state in the destination world when they login there. Even if there's no easy way to automatically tell the client to switch worlds, that could be a decent workaround.

sounds like simply masking the Main Menu with some "in between worlds room". A 3D ingame illusion world transition room will not make changing servers faster though and most server owners will probably dissallow clients importing inventories from elsewhere.

Lets say I start a local server then give myself 9999 diamonds.
I think people could setup networks of servers that is safe to teleport between. One for flat, one for mining, one for exploring.

I was thinking it would be for singleplayer only.

That would be nice if it would teleport you from place to place in the same world.
