Ubuntu / Linux - problem

by testOmine » Sun Mar 02, 2014 00:33

was happily running 0.4.7 for a month or so now.

( being recently, amazed with new textures & mods )
when I today noticed a few mod posts for MT Ver 0.4.9
git hub delivered the deb i386 for my iP5

now I cannot even start minetest - ( the Ubuntu Software Centre - threw an error )

as you can see, I've tried a few. ( Oh wait it don't like .png files = never mind )

where is the launcher program ???

( home/YOURNAME/[CTRL+H].minetest/ . . . ??? )

The distro name is sort of in the title...
Signature antivirus (Linux only): "grep -iv -- Signature\ virus" (minus the quotes, of course)
Signature goes in stdin, viruses are removed, and cleaned signature comes out on stdout.

minetest.net -- downloads:

http://minetest.net/download

for packages stable and daily.

minetest.net -- Development -- Github -- Minetest, then scroll down the readme till: "Compiling on GNU/Linux":

https://github.com/minetest/minetest

if you want to build it yourself (the instructions are readable)

https://code.launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/stable/+sourcepub/3778470/+listing-archive-extra <---

this file is " software centre " incompatable, . . ?

AND I seem to have a 0.4.9 version ( with an added stack traceback-123-ga4e2198 / Minetest )*

- but launching the newer one, is a lottery. =( only using 1 workspace )

Home/minetest/bin/minetest 0.4.9. - with my old saved worlds ( and errors )
-OR-
Home/icebolt/([ctrl]+H) .minetest/ = 0.4.7 via ubuntu launcher

Any help from the Tux wearers ?

The software center version is 0.4.7. Some of (the latest) mods don't work with a version older then 0.4.9

I've almost no experience with the packages, so I can't help you with those.

I compile it myself, using (copy/pasting) the instructions in the readme and choosing for the (standard) run in place. This means every time I build a new version, it is build in its own folder and I still have other folder(s) with my older minetest(s). If I want to use an old world, I can drag it to the new version (although I never tried).

0.4.9 giving errors for your old saved worlds is not strange. You probably need to use later versions of some mods. IIrc at least the ore generation has changed between 0.4.7 and 0.4.9. To help you with this, copy/paste part of your 0.4.9 debug.txt (the lines with ERROR in it)
