Adding a launcher? whats your opinion?

by BlauerEisRegen » Thu Mar 13, 2014 20:47

Hello.
I have a simple idea which would improve this game very much , I think.
What about adding a launcher where you can see in one view which version of minetest was released and which developer edition you would like to install. Also the changelog in this launcher would be great!
Whats your meaning?
Please write it in the comments!
Thank you for your answers!

We already have a launcher. You probably mean an auto updater/ patcher.

Not everybody compiles his/her MT version self. (example: Windows builds in General Discussion)
I'm happy with the current download-unzip-"copy&override 'bin' folder"-method.

I think you may have got the wrong idea of the meaning of launcher.

It is not enough to just overwrite the bin folder

Yes, maybe. Whatever, I think a laucher is not very important to add.

I know, the games folder is important too to actualize, also sometimes builtin. Depends on the changes and importance of the updates.

Such a thing should always be optional. Adding a launcher certainly doesn't seem to be a priority to the developers.
