Did you search on internet with these keywords:

intel corporation 82865g integrated graphics controller driver

Maybe you can find help in the results.

According to some websites your graphics card only supports OpenGL 1.3, this could be too low for Minetest to work completly. You could try running sudo apt-get install jockey-gtk && jockey-gtk, this will open a program which searches for drivers..

It said it's up to date. I have an old graphics card somewhere, but it may be slower. If I find it, I will try it. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

EDIT: It didn't work.

You can build a decent machine (for playing MT) with only $125 - $150.

I know, but I wanted to make a decent server also. I found a "barebones" 3.9Ghz 6 core, 8Gb ddr3, etc., etc. for $436.14 (includes tax, assembly, and standard shipping). Plus it has an awesome case. :-) I know I don't want Windows anymore, so I don't need to pay the extra $100.00+ for that to be installed. I have a few decent hard drives laying around (80+Gb*3), so I don't need those. Once I get a job (or buy a decent winning scratch-off...) I'm getting this beast. Lol.

Stats here
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
AMD FX-6350 Piledriver (Vishera) 3.9GHz (Six Core) 32nm, AM3+ 8MB Cache
Spire Kestrel-King II AMD 64 fan
ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+, Onboard Video,Sound, GB LAN
8GB (2x4GB) PC17000 DDR3 2133 Dual Channel (high performance memory)
Realtek HD digital audio (onboard)
Ethernet network adapter (onboard)
Apevia X-Dreamer-4 Black and Green, front USB 2.0 & 3.0, Temp. display, Hot swap HDD
Logisys 400W ATX Power Supply
Standard assembly and test 3-5 business days

Not bad for the price. I priced a similar machine at Office Depot and it was almost $700.00! With an ugly case, no usb 3.0, yada yada..

lol. What you looked at is a high-end PC, this is way more than enough for MT (and even MC).
A decent Minetest server would cost at most $200.

This is the most minimal machine I can find, and dual core sucks (but still better than my single core P4). This setup costs $241.23 with tax and shipping, etc. I only added the stuff I don't have that's compatible (I.E. Ram), which I put the minimum they had.

Code: Select all
AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz (Dual Core) 45nm, AM3 2MB Cache
Spire Kestrel-King II AMD 64 fan
MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) AM3+, Onboard Video, GB LAN
4GB (2x2GB) PC8500 DDR3 1066 Dual Channel
Realtek HD digital audio (onboard)
Ethernet network adapter (onboard)
PowMax Black Mid Tower ATX Case w/ Front USB
Logisys 400W ATX Power Supply
Standard assembly and test 3-5 business days

All I need to be able to play is a motherboard for my ES5200. The CPU, Ram, HDD, DVD Drive, etc. is all good, but the motherboard fried. It looks like liquid got in it somehow. The ABSOLUTE minimum is a new graphics card for this machine...

I'm playing Minetest on a Celeron G1610. The newer version of that Celeron is said to be even faster regarding graphics. There are cheap boards available with everything onboard. Of course it's not as fast and does not allow as far a view as a machine with an extra graphics card would allow - but it's usually more than sufficient.

I know, but I don't want ANY lag. If I planed to run a server I would need at least a quad core to not have lag. I have a list of mods I want to run also, some of which NEED performance (I.E. Mesecons and Technic). I know I don't need some 8 core, 32Gb GDDR3, 4TB HDD monster, though it would be nice. I just want to play, and possibly run a server, both with no (or minimal) lag.

Do you have any proof?
Tedypig wrote:I have a list of mods I want to run also, some of which NEED performance (I.E. Mesecons and Technic).

Both Mesecons and Technic do not require a very good CPU, mods can't even make use of more CPU cores.

A custom-built PC for $200 is more than sufficent for that, but if you want to throw money out of the window I can't stop you...

@Tedypig Like sfan said, don't waste your money. Just use something like pcpartpicker to help choose parts for a ~$200 pc. minetestserver does not need a beefy computer to work. iirc, someone actually made a server on a raspberry pi.

I also want to be able too play guys... To run the server AND play on the same machine, I NEED performance. I have a dual core @3.2 Ghz 3.2Ghz with 2Gb of GDDR2, and I had a server on it and played at the same time, I got ~10 FPS with JUST ME on it. My GF got on and it dropped to ~8, and a random person got on and it crashed. This is why I say I need at-least a quad core.

EDIT: Typo.

You are aware that the FPS you get depends on your graphics card more than on your CPU?
Anyway, you can get a computer with a quad-core CPU for $200 too.

Yes, I'm aware of that. But running minetestserver AND minetest at the same time needs more power. A client alone is painfully slow, then adding a server to that.... I mean, I'm running Linux now which cuts about 1,000,000,000 background programs out of the equation, but I'm sure it will still be bad.

The CPU has less effect, right. I did not say that the CPU has no effect at all.
Your current CPU might be too slow.
And no, GHz and number of cores are not indicators whether your CPU is fast or not.

Just saying, my dual core 1.9 GHz Celeron 1005M kicks ass. 45+ fps with shaders and shiz enabled, with a nice high viewrange. I also ran a server on it with heavy mods such as mesecons and the like with low lag.

If you are looking at AMD APUs, I'd recommend the 4.0 GHz Kaveri. It has enough power for the price - Last I saw was at $120

EDIT: Also, was your dual core a 3.2 GHz first gen i3?

7:42 PM - Bauglio: I think if you go to staples you could steal firmware from a fax machine that would run better than win10 does on any platform
7:42 PM - Bauglio: so fudge the stable build
7:43 PM - Bauglio: get the staple build

Update on my black sky, etc. problem (like anyone cares). I realized that it's just the blocks that are black/dark. The ingots, flowers, grass, tools, etc are all fine. Any ideas, or still my low OpenGL version? It's only in the inventory that it does this, once the block is placed, I can see exactly what it is.
