Climbing to Infinity 2

by Kilarin » Tue May 19, 2015 05:31

Xanadu was down tonight, and I happened to notice a server named "Climbing to Infinity"

I found a youtube video of the server here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsFJ9UvqfjY

I didn't experience the lag problems the guy making the vid did. But wow! What a fascinating map gen!!!

Can anyone tell me what map gen this server is using?

I think that that server uses the freeminer math mapgen.
(Maybe with these settings: http://forum.freeminer.org/threads/math ... #post-2915)

Yes a freeminer fractal mapgen, possibly this server https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?p=176723#p176723 and possibly the 'xenodreambuie' option, which seems to be a 3D or 4D Julia set.
My hypercomplex branch fractal mapgen https://github.com/paramat/minetest/tree/hypercomplex could do this with a little editing.

Thanks for the info folks.

It is a very cool idea that I'm now trying to figure out if I can implement into a more normal map gen. I just want a few of these strange infinity climbing structures scattered throughout the world for people to find. :)

There still is Mount Meru that can be added in unexplored regions and there are the turtle graphics and L-System Tree Utility though I don't know how large these structures can be designed but they might add some fun and strange structures (wasn't there a pandora style hometree mod somewhere?).

A Mount Meru version with some fractal config features might be in fact quite interesting

Ah yes, I had forgotten that mod. Thank you for reminding me!

Yes that fractal could be done in a lua mapgen, just slower than in core.
