Benchmarking Minetest 0.14.2 #2 (view distance)

Resuming previous post about performance https://forum.minetest.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12814, now I will present Minetest 0.4.12 32bit performance with varying view distance, two configs were used: without fps settings (uses some kind of fps limiter), and with fps_max = 1000. View distances were 40, 80, 120, 160, 200 and 240 nodes.

My conclusions:

On a minetest.conf without fps settings specified (by default), fps will usually hit 67fps limit for me (only on 32bit build), and average FPS is above 60 for view distances up to 160, however, minimum fps goes down below 50 in all cases. So the optimal minimum visual range is 120 nodes (large view and good fps).

With fps_max = 1000, that disables fps limiter and looks more realistic, average FPS is way above comfort level and drops fast from 380 (40 nodes) to 67 (200 nodes), minimal FPS with comfortable level (60) could be achieved on my PC at 120 nodes. So 120 nodes is again superior choice for me, and it will give me very good fps in 99% cases.

If you have middle end videocard and i3 level CPU, 120 nodes range could be the best on server with simple/medium complexity, servers like Vanessa's or LinuxGaming could lower your FPS noticeably in a crowded areas.
