Flashing Screen and Invisible Items!

Hi,
When I started up Minetest, I had a big issue; my screen was flashing and it took a while to click things because it would flash and not let me click! Thats not all. When I started punching a tree and got my wood, my wood block dissaperared! It's texture was gone! I would REALLY appreciate any help.

open your minetest.conf file and see if this line is present

# Set to true to pre-generate all item visuals
#preload_item_visuals = false

If it says true then that may be the flashing screen,
Its supposed to be false by default.

Some times when you first start the game it takes a minute for things to load (I thinks its mainly the mapgen doing its thing)
and if you are actively doing stuff while this is going on things can be laggy and weird
Sometimes things disappear and reappear.

Its best to let things "simmer down" for a few moments after starting the game
before building or exploring; especially in a new world.

I have an old machine but this mod makes things much easier

I let this mod run in a new world for a few hours (usually I start it before I go to bed)
the next time you play its much less laggy because the mapgen has already done its job.

The mod IS working for me, but I'll try sfans build :)

from sfan's page? the one labeled stable is old 0411
latest minetest is 0413.

I think sfan just hasnt updated the listing maybe? IDK.

The latest builds have minimap and several other perks.
also sfan includes several subgames so you get a newer minetest game
as well as a couple of others.

What links are you refering to?

All I have given are links to forum topics.

You are supposed to read them.

If you have updated your minetest installation
and have corrected the minetest.conf file to include :

preload_item_visuals = false

it could be hardware issues
video card settings it could be anything
IDK

I have just shared solution that fixed similarly sounding problems I have had in the past.
If your problems persist then the solution is outside of my realm of experience
you will have to wait for some one more smarter to help you.

if you use any of the "fixes" I posted in that topic,
you will have problems when other mods try to register stairs.
you will have to edit the mod to continue using the "fix".

so long as you use default mods it should be okay though,

For me they have proven helpful and completely aggrivating at the same time
I think I need to delete those from that thread.
