can you switch between v6 and v7 world types on a world originally made for v6?

Not really, unless you don't mind having straight edges/cliffs in areas that have not been generated before.
Also, if, for example, v7 had a terrain about 80+ nodes higher than v6, you might get terrain floating in the air.
Never paint white stripes on roads near Zebra crossings.

It would be interesting to try it. Make a backup of your world and then switch to a different gen.

I could be wrong but I think you go into your world folder and open the file map_meta.txt. Find the line that says mg_name = v6 and change it to the gen you want. I have not tried this so I am not positive.

It seems to have worked well

i edited the map_meta.txt file and just used gedit to replace all v6 strings with v7
and it definitely seems to of worked

here is a video showing it running:

Glad it worked for you. If you do fine a spot where the old map and new map looks bad you could try deleting the area.
Just make sure it is an area that you have no buildings. It deletes everything from the map in that area.
Your phone or window isn't wide enough to display the code box. If it's a phone, try rotating it to landscape mode.
Code: Select all
/deleteblocks here [radius] - Removes the MapBlock the player is in, from the database. As this triggers mapgen, this might start mechanisms like mud reflow or cavegen which very likely affect mapblocks outside the specified range. 113 blocks are a safe-distance for a server with no interfering mods. Radius is an optional argument to specify the range in which MapBlocks are deleted
