I agree that mese can be used for so much more. The thing to remember is that Minetest is a basic game/engine that is meant to be modded. It is not meant as a full game on it's own. That is what makes Minetest great. You can make minetest what ever you want by adding mods.
The thought that Minetest should be a full game is something that I disagree with. I think it should be avery basic game and people have to add mods to make it the way they like. Minetest has some really great server owners that make Minetest great. In single player I love being able to set it up the way I like it to be. I have a couple worlds with mobs and a few other mods that make them great survival worlds. I have others that are for building. The freedom to make the game the way I want it to be is what I think is what makes Minetest great.
With mese, there are many mods that use it for many things. It is no different then many other things in the default game. The items are there but do very little. Mods use those item to do many things. Mese is used in many mods for special things. Mesecons is an excellent example. The more that the default game uses the items the less mods will be able to. If you give mese a specific purpose in the default game you might make some mods loose there meaning. I think it is best to leave it as it is.
